Allie has about 20 years of experience teaching English and other subjects to children and adults. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Community and International Development from the University of Vermont and a Master’s Degree in Teaching with an ELL Endorsement from Seattle University. She’s worked at non-profits in the Seattle area, as an elementary school teacher in Bellevue, WA, and spent two years teaching abroad in Chile. At Literacy Source she has taught and developed curriculum in the Ready to Work, Citizenship, ESOL and various partnership programs. She believes in meeting students where they are and in supporting them to use education to meet goals that are important to them. Allie enjoys trying to grow as much food as possible in her little home garden, admiring her chickens and adventuring with her two children.

While pursuing a BA in Linguistics at the University of Washington, Amelia particularly enjoyed studying French and Arabic. Having spent so much time as a language student (and knowing the struggle of feeling linguistically incompetent), Amelia became interested in learning to be a language teacher. This is ultimately what drew Amelia to Literacy Source in 2024 to begin volunteering as a conversation class assistant. Now, Amelia is continuing at Literacy Source as an AmeriCorps member. She is grateful for the opportunity to gain valuable experience as a ESOL Level 1 instructor and has loved working with and learning from the very best staff and students at Literacy Source! In her free time, Amelia loves experimenting with ambitious new recipes, block printing, or meandering outdoors.
