Student Spotlight: Claire C
Our student speaker at our 2024 Empower Through Literacy breakfast had a lofty goal: to practice public speaking in front of a crowd of more than 150 people in English! But Claire rose to the occasion, and shared an eloquent account of why Literacy Source is important in her life and the lives of so many of our students.
Claire, who self-describes as the type of person who welcomes an opportunity to “jump outside of her comfort room”, won the visa lottery to come to the United States and, six months ago, uprooted her life in Taiwan, to “broaden my horizons and find more possibilities here.”
Claire loves Seattle, a place she describes as a “huge garden and forest” and believes it will offer her opportunities for work as a project manager. But first, she acknowledges, she needs to improve her English.
As we hear so frequently from our students, Claire highlights how comfortable and welcome she feels in her classes at Literacy Source, and how honored she is to be a representative of this incredible student body.
And for all of you who support Literacy Source, she closed her remarks with a touching reminder of how important this support is to each and every individual we serve: “The love you give will warm people’s heart just like a sun shining on things, and it will also illuminate people’s way forward.”
