Shellie Walters

Shellie is another long-term volunteer and an inspiration to us all. She began with Literacy Source in 1999 as an Adult Basic Education student, and has moved on to get her Associates Degree in Business and to work with national literacy organizations speaking on behalf of adult learners. She has most recently served as Secretary for the Board, and the insights and perspectives that she shares as a former student have been invaluable.

Here are a few things she has to say about her time here:

What are some good memories you have or positive changes you’ve seen while volunteering here?

The most positive change I participated in while being on the Board was being on the search committee for a new location and finding the new location for Literacy Source in Lake City. It’s been amazing to see how we’ve doubled the students that we serve since moving.

What would be your advice for new Board members stepping up to take your place?

What I would advise a new Board member is to remember that each of our skills that we bring to the Board are uniquely us, and that's the reason they were asked to join the Board.

What are you going to do next?

What I plan to do next is still continue to serve on the Fund Development Committee and support Literacy Source in anyway I can.

Thank you Shellie, for everything you’ve done and for your continued support!
