POSITION TITLE: Case Manager/Transitions Navigator

LOCATION: Literacy Source Learning Center - 3200 NE 125th St, in the Lake City neighborhood of Seattle


The Case Manager/Transitions Navigator will provide supportive and intercultural competence case management and navigation services to Ready to Work (RTW) and other Literacy Source students to increase retention and support self-sufficiency through paid employment. They will provide support, referrals, and advocacy to reduce barriers and support student success. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Employment and Transition Support

  • Work directly with students to assess employment readiness and develop an Individual Employment Plan for each RTW student and other LS students as needed.

  • Work one-on-one with students to provide on-going employment support, including job search, creating and revising resumes, completing job applications, and helping to prepare for job interviews.

  • Prepare students to participate in job fairs, workshops and job interviews, and accompany them as needed.

  • Attend job fairs to keep current on employment opportunities and trends.

  • Help to develop quarterly job fairs and/or employment workshops.

  • Support students to achieve long-term career goals, including helping to navigate transition to college classes and/or certificate and training programs; and helping with credential & transcript attainment, translation, and evaluation as needed.

  • Establish and maintain employer relationships to develop job placement opportunities.

  • Track employment opportunities in King County and provide clients with information and referrals to job openings.

  • Act as a liaison between employers and clients as needed to ensure positive work performance and long-term retention of employment.

  • Track and report RTW incentives, job placements, and progress.

  • Create flyers for new job opportunities.

Case Management: Provide resources and advocacy to support student success

  • Work with instructional staff to understand the non-instructional needs of their students. Provide support to students and follow-up with instructors to keep them informed.

  • Provide support to students in navigating and accessing services, including, but not limited to: ORCA Lift cards, eyeglasses, childcare, and healthcare enrollment.

  • Help students with emergencies as they arise, including assisting and providing referrals for naturalization issues and/or asylum petitions, help obtaining legal services, etc.

  • Assist interested clients to obtain ORCA lift cards. Register and refill ORCA lift cards as needed.

  • Administer student support funds, including helping with specific one-time needs to reduce barriers and support retention.

  • Provide support as needed to help resolve barriers to participation.

  • Attend case management (RTW) and team meetings.

Program Support

  • Provide translation support for students, including: calls to absent students to assist with issues to increase attendance, in-class evaluations, New Student Registrations, student assessments, citizenship intakes, and other tasks as needed.

  • Conduct community outreach to increase awareness of Literacy Source.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community partners.

  • Assist with New Student Registration, student assessments, and intakes at the beginning of each term.

  • Be well versed in Literacy Source programs and services and develop an understanding of ESOL levels and students.

  • Participate in Literacy Source all-staff meetings and trainings.


  • At least one-year experience providing case management services to adults, with specific experience working with immigrants, refugees and other non-native English-speaking populations.

  • Bi-lingual (English/Amharic or English/Tigrinya preferred).

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

  • Knowledge of local market trends, employment and training services, and the welfare system.

  • Ability to develop new employment prospects for program participants and maintain good relations with existing employers.

  • Ability to work as a team member with professional and support staff, analyze and draw conclusions from case records, apply casework principles to individual situations, exercise judgment, and organize multiple tasks.

  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a busy office environment.

  • Strong computer and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to refugee and immigrant advocacy.

  • Ability to ensure client confidentiality as prescribed by agency and federal policy.


Bachelor’s or A.A. degree, or a completed certificate program which led to employment in a professional or paraprofessional field.


SALARY: $20 per hour. Full benefits, including medical, dental, paid holidays, employer-matching pension plan, vacation and sick time.

HOURS: 30 hours per week (Monday-Thursday, primarily on-site), some evenings required. Open and close office 2+ times per month.
