Adult Basic Education (ABE)

Adult Basic Education (ABE) services are for adult learners who speak English, but want to improve their reading, writing, or math. ABE services offered by Literacy Source include one-to-one tutoring and small group classes. Students are encouraged to stack classes and tutoring and/or repeat the same course more than once in order to promote progress.

All programs are offered at our Fremont center and are free to adults who qualify based on where they live and their income. If you don’t qualify for Literacy Source services, we can tell you about other learning programs.

ABE Classes

In our ABE classes, students learn in small groups with one or two teachers. All classes follow the quarter system. Some classes are like a lab where students each work on different skills, while others are more structured around common learning goals. Your adviser can help you find the right class for you. Listed below are some of the ABE classes offered:

ABE Tutoring

One-one-one tutoring is offered in every basic skill area to students who qualify as low-income. Students and tutors are matched for a year and generally meet for three hours per week (two sessions of 1.5 hours each).
